About Zoran Petkovic
Contemporary Abstract Artist
My passion for contemporary abstract art comes from deep within the subconscious realms of my
mind and is influenced by various art movements amongst which the strongest inspiration comes from Wassily
Kandinsky who is considered to be the father of the abstract movement.
Kandinsky’s idea that art should be “an exact replica of some inner emotion” is where my
artistic philosophy emerges. In the artistic space generated in my mind, my thoughts wander into the
unexplored, discovering unexpected creations that stimulate ideas where beauty emerges through harmony, rhythm,
colour, movement, forms and abstract shapes.
The adventurous approach I take towards my art exudes an extravagance that pushes beyond the
known, tearing down confines of visual expression. It is about the new, the exciting, the magical, and the taboo.
It encompasses passions of the heart, dissolving boundaries and allows an intimate and personal connection with the
object of desire.
Like Kandinsky, the use of colour is a powerful expression of my thoughts and desires and I
utilise photography as a medium to allow my creative impulses full reign to explore the outer dimensions of colour
and shape.
My art is the result of a creative play with the fluid world of the abstract where the original
images of natural objects are obscured and distorted to the point where they become unrecognizable.
Through this process I search for new ideas and stimulate subjective concepts, inspiring
emotions and unlocking desires. The image moves through me and is transformed into a subjective experience of my
inner world touched by emotion and timelessness.
Spontaneity of the heart is my ultimate guiding muse.
